French Football Federation working hard to bring video referees into Ligue 1 as it will be tested this season for good
LIGUE 1 will put video referees to the test this season.
It has emerged that the executive committee of the French Football federation (FFF) want to test video in football this season, in collaboration with the French Football League (LFP).

A statement said: “In France, this experimental period will be over two years and with two steps.
“First step, from November 2016, is to train video-assistant referees over some Ligue 1 games, without acting on the play.
“Second step, from March 2017, is to experiment and take action in the game with the main official only, and during designated test match.”

It also says that only the main referee will be allowed to ask more details from the video-assistant referee.
The FFF, who is engaged in this project with the International Football Association Board (IFA), have insisted that this is a step forward for the future of football.

France played Italy in a 3-1 friendly win on September 1, and it was the first international football game assisted by video.
And it proved to be a good innovation as it saved Djibril Sidibé to be sent off after committing a foul – the referee checking his video official to take a decision to give a red card or just a yellow.

And another example was when it was used to disallow a penalty shout later in the game.
The Premier League should really consider to test this method soon.
