Who is Stan Wawrinka?

Wawrinka was born in Switzerland to a Swiss mother and a German father of Czech ancestry.

He is known as a powerful offensive baseline player with one of the strongest backhands in the game.

Wawrinka has justified his lofty number 3 seeding at the tournament by reaching this year’s semi-final without dropping a set.

A former winner at Roland Garros and the Australian Open as well as the current US Open champ, he only needs a Wimbledon title to complete the career grand slam.

Both Wawrinka's grand slam wins over Murray have come in the US Open while the Scot has triumphed at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows.
