Friday’s horse racing tips: Three longshots to bag some profit at Goodwood, Haydock and Brighton

SINK the bookies with three big-priced bets at Friday’s meetings at Goodwood, Haydock and Brighton.

The William Knight-trained Arab Moon can shine at Goodwood on Friday evening for champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa (7.05).

Champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa is currently enjoying a red-hot streak[/caption]

The four-year-old was set a stiff task over the same course and distance on his most recent outing, when he ran sixth in a 0-105 handicap when poorly positioned.

He is now eased into a more suitable 0-95 and he has slipped to an attractive-looking mark of 83.

De Sousa has been in the saddle for two of Arab Moon’s four career victories and the champ is in red-hot form at present, with 20 winners over the past two weeks.

I must confess that Meshardal is an old favourite of mine, and everything looks in place for a big run from the eight-year-old at Haydock (7.25).

The gelding has been a brilliant servant to trainer Ruth Carr over the years, and he has now dropped 4lb below his last winning mark.

He also caught the eye over the same course and distance 13 days ago when not hard pushed to take a never-nearer fourth.

The forecast good to firm ground will be right up his street and he is reunited with jockey James Sullivan, who has been aboard for all bar one of Meshardal’s ten career successes.

There are fun and games to be had a Brighton during the afternoon, too, and I am something of a sucker for the De Sousa angle once again.

Friday's top tips

3.40 Brighton – Daily Trader “On a good mark and eased in class” (add to your betslip)

7.05 Goodwood – Arab Moon “Sights lowered and De Sousa back in the saddle” (add to your betslip)

7.25 Haydock – Meshardal “Attractively weighted and caught the eye last time” (add to your betslip)

The David Evans-trained Daily Trader has been short of his best of late, but he has had excuses and SDS rides him for the first time (3.40).

He badly missed the break when fifth at Windsor last time and was never able to land a blow, but he is now 2lb below his last winning mark and has been eased in grade.
