Furious Falklands veteran Simon Weston slams ‘anti-Brit’ Fifa after hitting national teams with £80,000 in fines for defying poppy ban

FIFA was blasted yesterday as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were fined almost £80,000 for defying its poppy ban.

The Three Lions were hit with the biggest penalty — £35,311 — after stars including Wayne Rooney honoured our war dead at Wembley last month.

Opponents Scotland, who lost 3-0 in the World Cup qualifier, were fined £15,694 for also sporting armbands emblazoned with what Fifa denounced as a “political” emblem.

Wales was stung for the same amount.

Northern Ireland’s fine was £11,770.

Disgusted Falklands War hero Simon Weston, 55, raged: “There is an anti-British theme going on.”

RAF veteran John Nichol, 63 — who survived Saddam Hussein’s torturers after being captured in Iraq — said: “It is incomprehensible.”

Theresa May’s spokesman slammed the fines.

Labour have also branded Fifa “disrespectful”.
