Gareth Bale’s injury woes were predicted by Spanish doctor way back in 2013

GARETH Bale is struggling to be fit for the Champions League final in hometown Cardiff with a calf injury… the 11th of his time at Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane admits the Welshman is in a fight to be ready for the final with Juventus, having limped off in the El Clasico defeat to Barcelona in April.

Zidane said: “We have to see day to day with Gareth. He is continuing in the gym, working, trying to rid of his discomfort.

“It is getting better but you ahve to go day by day. But he’s not even training with us. I cannot tell you when he will return but hopefuly ti is soon.”

However Los Blancos were warned Bale was prone to injuries just a few months after he moved to Spain.

In an interview with Marca in October 2013, leading Spanish doctor Dr Avelino Parajon branded the decision to sign the former Tottenham star an ‘error’ because of his poor injury record.

“If Real Madrid have signed Gareth Bale knowing about this protrusion, they have committed an error,” he said.

“That is not to say that tomorrow it can be operated on and he can continue playing, like has happened many times.

“But if he already has problems with protruding discs, that indicates that it is not a one-off.

“When a person has those problems at that age, it suggests that he has a great possibility of suffering herniated discs and symptoms arising from that over time.

“It is a bad sign for any athlete.”

Worryingly Parajon appears to be right about the recurring problems, with Bale missing a massive 27 games through injury this season alone.

The likes of Isco, James Rodriguez and Marco Asensio - not exactly terrible players - have deputised in his absence to arguably greater success.

Is Bale now in danger of becoming a nearly man rather than the most natural heir to Cristiano Ronaldo's Real kingdom?
