Gegard Mousasi aiming for revenge against Uriah Hall in UFC Belfast’s new main event

UFC Fight Night in Belfast has a new main event, and there’s the faint smell of revenge in the air.

That’s because Dutch middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi has been matched against the last man to beat him, Uriah ‘Primetime’ Hall, in a new headliner for the November 19 card in Northern Ireland, according to reports Stateside.

The event was due to feature a welterweight clash between Icelandic star Gunnar Nelson and South Korea’s Dong Hyun Kim.

But an undisclosed injury to Nelson has seen the fight scrapped, with Mousasi v Hall drafted in as the event’s new main event.

Hall shocked the MMA world when he stopped Mousasi by second-round TKO, thanks to a spectacular spinning back-kick in Saitama, Japan, in September 2015.

And chatting to SunSport earlier this week Mousasi admitted that defeat still played on his mind.

“Definitely. I would have been on a six (fight) winning streak if that (defeat) didn’t happen,” he explained.

“I talk bad about Uriah Hall all the time, but I don’t dislike the guy. He won the fight, fair and square.

“But do I feel like I was the better fighter and he set me back? Yeah.

“I’m upset with myself – it has nothing to do with Uriah Hall.

“Is that a fight I want to prove that I am the better fighter, then go from there? Yeah, definitely.”

Now Mousasi has that opportunity, as he gets set to face Hall in a rematch between two of the best strikers in the division.

Mousasi heads into the bout in superb form, with a hat-trick of wins against Thales Leites (decision), Thiago Santos (KO) and Vitor Belfort (TKO).

Hall, meanwhile, is desperate to get back into the win column after suffering back-to-back losses to Robert Whittaker (decision) and Derek Brunson (TKO).
