Geordie Shore and BAMMA star Aaron Chalmers moving to Florida to train for Bellator debut alongside MMA legends Mirko Cro Cop and Roy Nelson

AARON CHALMERS is swapping the Geordie Shore for Coconut Creek with a six-week move to Florida to prepare for his Bellator debut on May 25.

After three first-round wins with British promotion BAMMA, the reality TV star has been granted a one-fight release to fight for their US partner alongside some MMA legends.

Combat icon Mirco Cro Cop stars up against UFC heavyweight hero Roy Nelson – with British karate genius Michael ‘Venom’ Page in support.

And the 30-year-old Toon sensation was almost lost for words when he learned he would be joining that illustrious list.

Chalmers said: “I was sitting round my girlfriend’s house and my agent called and said ‘you are not going to believe it’.

“I knew there were talks going on but I still didn’t expect him to say ‘you are fighting on the Bellator London show’.

“My heart sank with nerves because it is quite a big show – well it’s actually a f****** huge show.

“I am buzzing. Inside a year everything has just gone from strength to strength. And now I am on one of the biggest shows in the world.

Complete Bellator 200 Main Card:

Middleweight World Title: Rafael Carvalho (15-1) vs. Gegard Mousasi (43-6-2)

Heavyweight: Mirko Cro Cop (36-11-2, 1 NC) vs. Roy Nelson (23-15)

Light Heavyweight: Phil Davis (18-4) vs. Linton Vassell (18-6)

Welterweight: Michael Page (12-0) vs. David Rickels (19-4, 2 NC)

163-Pound Catchweight: Aaron Chalmers (3-0) vs. Ash Griffiths (4-5)

“If someone said to me a year ago that I would be on the same card as Mirko Cro Cop, Roy Nelson and Michael Venom Page I would have laughed at them and said ‘f*** off’.

“A year later I am on it and it seems surreal. I am going to be sitting in a press conference with Mirko f****** Cro Cop, who I have watched for years.”

Chalmers is swapping the burgeoning Ultimate Training Centre in Birmingham – where he works with Brit sensations Leon and Fabian Edwards – for American Top Team.

UFC stars like welterweight champion Tyson Woodley, Brit banger Marc Diakese and female champions Amanda Nunes and Joanna Jedrzejczyk call the gym home.

And Chalmers has been personally invited over to work on his wrestling and ground game ahead of his clash with Ash Griffiths.

The Geordie star said: “I am going to get my head down and train. I am going to American Top Team to train and work on my all-round game.

“I got speaking to the head coach over there Conan Silveira and he said they would love to have me over there.

“They are one of the top teams in the world so I can only imagine the calibre of some of the coaches and people I am going to be working with.

“I just cannot wait to get out there and get stuck in. I am going over there to work on my ground game and wrestling.”

Instead of panicking about sharing a dressing room with some of the most dangerous men in MMA, Chalmers says a slot on the super-card will help him relax.

Despite being a relative novice for his first three fights, he has carried the promotional duties and is looking forward to sitting back and watching some of his heroes do the hard work.

He said: “I fought in front of 6,000 people in Newcastle for a big BAMMA show so it is not as if I am coming in after fighting for 100 people somewhere.

“I have been on big shows and had full-houses so I don’t feel any more nerves and I am just enjoying all the opportunities.

“Previously I have had to carry all of the press and marketing on my shoulders so this will be nice to have some pressure off to concentrate on fighting.

“I am not the big name anymore with Cro Cop, Nelson and MVP all spread out. I think there will be a lot less stress.”
