Golden Boy 2016: Marcus Rashford, Dele Alli and Kelechi Iheanacho among Premier League nominees


MARCUS RASHFORD and Dele Alli lead the Premier League nominees for the Golden Boy award.

The annual gong honours the best player under the age of 21 to play in a European nation’s top tier.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford nominated for Golden Boy award

Rashford’s extraordinary emergence has seen him included in the list, while Alli — who won the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season — is also on the list of nominees.

Arsenal‘s Alex Iwobi, Manchester City pair Leroy Sane and Kelechi Iheanacho, Leicester’s Demarai Gray and Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek received nominations — as did new Liverpool signing, Marko Grujic.

Chelsea’s Ruben Lofuts-Cheek is one of the surprise nominees for Golden Boy award

Celtic‘s Moussa Dembele is the only nominee for the Scottish Premier League.

However, Kingsley Coman and Renato Sanches are the early favourites — while AC Milan‘s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Anderlecht’s Youti Tielemans and Gabriel Barbosa are other notables.

The award is the equivalent of the Ballon d’Or for players under the age of 21.

Rafael van der Vaart won the inaugural honour in 2003 and it has since been won by the likes of Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling.

While, the likes of Anderson, Alexandre Pato and Mario Balotelli enjoyed less success after winning the award.

United ace, Anthony Martial, is the current holder of the TuttoSport award.
