Golfer Ben Bender thanks the Lord after hitting first hole-in-one aged 93, as he retires before finishing his round

GOLFER Ben Bender signed off in the perfect fashion after hitting his first ever hole-in-one during his last ever round at the age of 93.

The veteran, who suffers from hip bursitis, failed to even finish the round, but thanked the Lord for his heroics at Ohio’s Green Valley Golf Course.

Bender – who reached a handicap of three during his peak – had played for over sixty years without achieving the feat.

But he finally managed to ace a hole on the 152-yard par three third hole with his trusty five-wood.

His round had started poorly, having carded an eight on the first hole, before taking seven shots on the second.

Speaking to the Zanesville Times, Bender said: “I’d come close to some hole-in-ones, but this one was level on the green before it curved towards the hole and went in.

“I was in awe watching it. I played a few more holes, but my hips were hurting and I had to stop.

“It seemed the Lord knew this was my last round so he gave me a hole-in-one.”

He added: “I was lucky to play golf this long, but I never expected (a hole-in-one).

“It was the last time I was able to play, and I think God had a hand in this. I loved the game and hate to give it up, but I can’t play forever.”
