Golfer has a shocker as he shoots 55-OVER-PAR round of 127 in US Open qualifying


A GOLFER has become an internet sensation after shooting an incredible 55 shots OVER par in US Open qualifying.

The player, named Clifton McDonald, is a relative unknown and has become famous for his incredibly high score at Silver Lakes in Alabama.

He carded an incredible 23 over par for his first nine holes.

And he did NOT give up.

Instead he soldiered on, reportedly forcing players behind to have to queue to take their shots, as he went 35 shots over par on the back nine holes.

American pro Lee McCoy tweeted the scorecard overnight, seemingly shocked at what had been taking so long ahead of him.

He said: “The scorecard of the guy that played in front of me at US Open qualifying today. Shot 68 on his front 9 and decided to finish #NeverGiveUp.”

The US Open is taking place in Erin Hills in Wisconsin this year, with Dustin Johnson looking to defend the title he won at Oakmont 12 months ago.

McDonald, from Meridian, Mississippi, was also bizarrely criticised for wearing pleated cotton kahkis, given that it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 32 degrees centigrade.
