Wingert was standing in the camera well near the Braves dugout while preparing her match report.

Sam Freeman was pitching and Odubel Herrera was hitting as the incident happened during the seventh inning.

A foul ball flew out of control, before hitting the railing of the dugout and striking the sideline reporter in the face.

After applying a bag of ice to the injury, she was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a fractured eye socket.

Wingert, who covers the Braves for Fox Sports South, then turned to Twitter to update her followers.

It read: “Back home. I have a fracture in my eye socket, but it could have been MUCH worse.

“I really appreciate all the tweets, calls and texts.”

She then retweeted an image posted by fellow reporter Kelsey Conway, which showed her badly bruised eye.

The Braves are now reportedly adding extra netting around the dugout to ensure that this does not happen again.
