Rovers supporters have  trotted out the chant ‘Old faithful, you’ll never win at Wembley’,    ever since they beat their rivals in the 1980 final. Now  Taylor wants to the shut them up   by lifting  the  trophy again.

Taylor, 25, tonight faces old club Wigan — who he lifted the Cup with in  2013.

Hull FC last won the trophy in 2005, and he said: “When you meet a Hull KR fan, it’s all they say to you.

“If we won it,   they’d need something else to sing. I want to rewrite the history books.”
