Hull FC v Salford Red Devils: Hull star Josh Griffin dishes the dirt on brother George and reveals he had NRL interest before leaving Salford

JOSH Griffin hopes to send brother George around the bend tonight – after revealing his sibling only moved out of home because he could not drive.

The family will be divided as the pair come up against each other in a competitive game for the first time. However, the Hull ace insists mum Susan wants a diplomatic draw!

And he got his own back after George claimed he is the ‘mummy’s boy’ by lifting the lid on why he ended up staying at their Oxfordshire home the longest.

“He moved out when I was 17 or 18-years-old but that was only because he’d signed for Hull KR and he couldn’t drive,” said Griffin.

“He calls me the mummy’s boy because I stayed at home for longer but I was expecting that from him.

“And if he says my mum will be supporting Hull tonight, he’s talking nonsense – she’s already said she wants a draw!

“We met in pre-season and Salford won that one – George thinks he’s already got one over on me.”

The third brother of the Griffin clan, Darrell, may be looking of from the KCom Stadium stands as Josh and George go up against each other.

But 26-year-old Josh also has another reason to impress – he is coming up against his former club which he left in the off-season.

And he has admitted he felt like he fell into a ‘comfort zone’ with the Red Devils, as well as turned down interest from the NRL to move to Hull.

He added: “I saw Hull as the next step up for my career and at Salford, I felt familiar with the surroundings, plus George was there.

“I was umming and arring over whether to go to Australia but when Hull came in for me, they were top of Super League at the time.

“There was interest from NRL clubs but I couldn’t give it enough time to see whether it escalated into a genuine offer – I couldn’t really give it a chance and I signed for Hull pretty early on last season.

“Plus, I was waiting to move into a newly-built house – it was just the wrong time to consider Australia really.

“Now I signed for Hull for three years and I’m only four months into that. I’d be 29 after those three years and maybe that’s a bit too old to think about moving to the NRL.”

Since leaving Salford, Griffin has seen Ian Watson’s men become surprise packages of Super League.

But there is no resentment from their now former centre. If anything, he is glad to see them up there.

“The good thing is the team at Salford has really improved and there has really been a change,” Griffin said.
