Hull KR’s Junior Vaivai learned about the cross-city rivalry from a 12-year-old!

JUNIOR Vaivai is loving every minute of being in Hull, even though not everyone is loving him being at Hull KR.

The winger has made a huge impact since arriving at Craven Park, almost as big an impact as his cousin, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, made on people during his wrestling career.

But he has revealed how he quickly found out how divided his new home city can be, courtesy of one child who definitely did not hold back.

As he prepares to face Leeds today, Vaivai said: “I had an encounter with a 12-year-old, who didn’t like Hull KR.

“I can’t really repeat what they said, let’s just say there were some really harsh words!

“They certainly don’t hold back but I think that’s good for the game. It brings a lot more passion into it.

“But I’m enjoying it in Hull. I’m even enjoying the weather and the people are nice, down to earth and easy to talk to. So far, so good.

“And I guess that’s the best part about it, that everyone’s passionate about their team.”

USA international Vaivai, who qualifies through his American Samoan background, has settled in instantly to Tim Sheens’ side.

It is perhaps just as well after centre Thomas Minns tested positive for cocaine and is certain to receive some sort of suspension.

But the 28-year-old is eager to repay Rovers’ faith as they waited for his visa to come through and feels he can get even better.

Vaivai added: “The club was pretty patient with me, so they didn’t rush which I appreciated. Now I’m glad to be out there.

“I’ve still got a few things to work on though.”
