Hungry England rugby league fans driven crazy as KFC advertise cheap chips and gravy in World Cup Lebanon clash

THERE’S only one thing Northerners love more than rugby league… and that’s chips and gravy.

So KFC’s marketing team played a blinder when they advertised a bargain offer on a portion during England’s World Cup clash with Lebanon on Saturday morning.

Kallum Watkins and Jermaine McGillvary ran in early tries to help Wayne Bennett’s side build up a healthy first-half lead in Sydney.

But fans at home barely noticed – as they were too busy salivating over the prospect of an artery-clogging breakfast.

One viewer, Ash, wrote: “Hope Lebanon get some field position soon or I’m gonna end up driving to KFC for chips and gravy.”

While Emma Trill moaned: “I now want KFC chips and gravy. Damn you rugby league World Cup.”

Chris Bickerstaff laughed: “KFC Australia making Northerners go mental with their chips and gravy pitch ad at the rugby league!”

And even England Rugby League’s official Twitter page got in on the act at half-time, posting: “Be right back, had a sudden urge to get some chips & gravy…”

Unfortunately for hungry fans, the $2.50 offer is only available in Australia.

So they might have to wait for the local chippy to open at lunchtime.
