Is this next season’s worst new kit? Hearts reveal strip that has been compared to Mr Blobby, confectionery and even cake

IT has been compared to Mr Blobby, Fruit Salad sweets and even a Battenberg cake.

And as Hearts revealed their new away kit for the new season, even captain Alim Öztürk didn’t look too happy as he posed for the cameras.

The Scottish Premier League outfit’s new design features horizontal pink stripes on a yellow jersey, with matching yellow shorts and socks.

The club say the kit is in honour to the 5th Earl of Roseberry, who became Prime Minister in 1894, and who was also President of the Scottish Football Association and Honorary President of Hearts.

Being a keen racehorse owner, his colours were primrose yellow and pink – as reflected in Hearts’ 2016/17 away kit.

Since the design was revealed, it has led to many on social media criticising the choice.

On Twitter, Kenny Gibson ‘revealed’ that the club’s new mascot is Mr Blobby, while Emma Collinge said that the design reminded her of Battenberg cake.

Liam Grace posted the photo of captain Azturk alongside the old school Fruit Salad sweet, while Jack Smith said it reminded him of a Drumstick lolly.

And some of the club’s supporters don’t seem to keen to buy themselves a replica shirt this season either.

The club posted a statement on their website saying: “The new Hearts away jersey is a contemporary take on that iconic Scottish strip.

“Its arrival is designed to coincide with the opening of the museum (details to be announced later this month).  It provides a fitting tribute both to one of the club’s finest and to the Rosebery family.”
