Is this the worst 20 seconds of football EVER? Italian magazine votes passage in QPR’s match with Manchester City in 1993 most dreadful of all time

AN Italian football magazine has dubbed a 20 second clip of Queen’s Park Rangers vs Manchester City as the worst bit of football ever.

And, to be honest, it’s hard to disagree.

A 20 second clip from Qpr vs Man City from 1993 has been dubbed the worst bit of football ever

Since the weekend, a clip posted to the brilliant Twitter account @Crap90sFootball has being doing the rounds on social media.

The account has thousands of short clips that show just how brutally bad English football used to be.

But one particular clip – posted to the account by Ian Blair – has caught the eye worldwide.

It’s been featured on websites in Europe and the US and now one Italian magazine has decided to crown the clip as the WORST bit of football ever.

L’Ultimo Uomo said it was the “ugliest football” ever seen… “and yet the most glorious”.

The clip comes from the FA Cup fourth round clash between QPR and Man City at Loftus Road in January 1993.

It was the first Premier League season and both clubs would have decent campaigns.

Player-manager Peter Reid would take his team to ninth and Gerry Francis would take the west Londoners to a TOP FOUR finish.

But despite the general quality of both teams, both of which had a scattering of full internationals, that didn’t stop a truly manic, dreadful bit of play from both sides.

After a poorly hit free-kick, it appears as if QPR are the defending team, especially when Steve McMahon beats a man on the edge of the box and slips a pass back to the goal – his goal.

Man City goalkeeper Tony Coton is slow to react, diving at the feet of Bradley Allen and completely misses.

The ball drops to Les Ferdinand – who went on to win 17 England caps
Despite getting two swipes at the ball in front of an open goal, Ferdinand could only send it wide

McMahon makes up for his backpass with a great interception at the front post and the ball drops to Coton.

But the keeper can’t untangle his feet and panics – and in his attempt to hoof the ball upfield he cannons it straight into a QPR player.

The ball falls to the feet of Les Ferdinand – scorer of 24 goals that season and winner of 17 England caps – who is staring at an open goal two yards out.

But the No 9 gets caught in a sandy goalmouth and doesn’t get the right contact with his left foot.

He gets another swipe at it but Ferdinand’s wild swing results the ball in dribbling harmlessly wide.
