Jack Rodwell injury curse strikes again with knee ligament damage just weeks after returning to David Moyes’ Sunderland team


JACK RODWELL’S injury curse has struck AGAIN – as David Moyes’ problems show no sign of abating.

The crock-prone Sunderland midfielder, who has only recently returned from two months out with a troubled hamstring, suffered knee ligament damage in Saturday’s defeat to Stoke.

And Rodwell, 25, will now miss the second-bottom Black Cats’ visit to West Brom on Saturday.

It means Moyes currently has a staggering 12 first-team players unavailable – nine injured and three at the African Nations Cup.

There is a chance he could have two of that number back before the end of the week – Victor Anichebe and Steven Pienaar.

But neither have yet to return to full training – only two days out from the trip to the Hawthorns.

On Rodwell, Moyes said: “Jack has a medial ligament injury.

“He had just started to get a couple of games under his belt so to have him out is a blow.

“We’re hopeful that he might just have to stay off it for a week or so and let’s see how he is.”

Rodwell, whose career has been blighted with injury, joked about the club’s crock crisis earlier this month.

The ex-Everton and Manchester City starlet said: “With this squad I can’t afford to get injured again, none of us can – I maybe will be put in the fridge for a bit!”
