Jenson Button warned by Williams they will ‘not wait around’ for him to decide his future

JENSON BUTTON has been warned by Williams they will ‘not wait around’ for him to decide his future.

The Grove-based F 1 team are interested in signing the 2009 champ, 36, when his McLaren deal expires at the end of the season.

McLaren will not make a decision on their driver pairing for 2017 until September at the earliest.

But Williams, who gave Button his F 1 breakthrough in 2000, hope to force him into making an early decision.

Williams’ deputy team chief Claire Williams said: “We will make our own driver line-up decision.

“I am not going to be waiting around for [McLaren chairman] Ron Dennis or for Jenson to make his decision.

“It is not about what other people are doing.

“It would be a great story but he has to make the right choice for him.

“And we must make the right choice for the team.”
