JESSICA ENNIS-HILL was left fighting back tears after receiving a deafening ovation as she finally collected her 2011 world heptathlon gold medal.
Ennis-Hill was beaten into silver by Tatyana Chernova in Daegu six years ago – only for the Russian to be found to have cheated by taking drugs to improve her performance.
Britain's golden girl was told last November she was being upgraded to champion, but had to wait until tonight to be handed her medal.
And the triple world champion was visibly stunned by the reception she got from her adoring fans, just minutes before double drugs cheat Justin Gatlin was awarded his 100 metres gold medal.
The former Olympic champion said: ""I can’t believe I’m nearly crying.
"To come back here and collect this medal is so special, I'm so grateful for the support everyone has given me
"To have had the career I have and the support I received, with my family here, is amazing.
"I don’t miss competing. I enjoyed every minute of it, but it is time sit back and watch the next generation of British athletes coming through."
