Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz set for Madison Square Garden showdown

UFC 205 in New York is all set to feature an all-Polish world championship bout, with defending strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk booked to take on undefeated contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Earlier on Friday a happy Jedrzejczyk tweeted a picture holding a signed bout agreement from her new training home at American Top Team in Florida.

And it’s beeen confirmed the  undefeated world champ is set to face fellow Pole Kowalkiewicz, with the bout set to take place at UFC 205 on November 12. FloCombat initially reported the bout as a done deal.

In addition to the strawweight title clash, two other women’s bouts are set for the November 12 event, with former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate taking on Raquel Pennington, while the first woman to face Ronda Rousey in the UFC, bantamweight Liz Carmouche, takes on Katlyn Chookagian.

The event, which represents the UFC’s first event in the state since UFC 7 in Buffalo in 1995, will be the promotion’s maiden event at the iconic Madison Square Garden arena.

With the Jedrzejczyk v Kowalkiewicz bout now confirmed, the even now has a world title fight after the UFC initially confirmed five non-title fights earlier this week.

However, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has also announced he would be defending his belt against top contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson on the November 12 card.

And if that bout is confirmed, that would make the UFC’s maiden event at MSG a double-world championship affair.

But despite the presence of two title fights, there would still be room at the top of the card for a megafight to headline the overall event.

And fans’ hopes remain high that, despite news to the contrary earlier this week, Conor McGregor could still top the card in a champion versus champion battle with lightweight king Eddie Alvarez.
