JORDAN HENDERSON says the whole England squad want “brilliant” Gareth Southgate to get the manager’s job full-time.
Southgate has been in charge for the last two games — and will also boss next month’s matches against Scotland and Spain before an FA review.
Asked if Southgate should stay on, stand-in skipper Henderson said: “Yes, the players have got on really well with him this week.
“He’s been brilliant. But, ultimately, it’s down to him and what he wants to do. He listens to experienced players. He gives responsibility to the squad.”
Southgate claims he has inherited “a mess” from previous bosses Roy Hodgson and Sam Allardyce.
But Hendo added: “It’s been a good week – it would have been better with two wins. But we’ve got to take the positives, beating Malta and then getting a good point.”

Henderson, 26, was captain for the first time in the goalless draw against Slovenia on Tuesday.
The Liverpool midfielder added: “I was very proud. At the same time, the focus was to keep doing what I’ve been doing for the team and concentrate on my role.
“I’m a little bit disappointed and frustrated with the game, that we didn’t win. You’ve got to give some credit to Slovenia.
“This point might be valuable to qualify.”
