JOSH Charnley has no regrets over moving to rugby union – but was shocked when Sale players did not know the Rugby League World Cup was on!
The former Wigan man is back in rugby league after signing for Warrington until 2020 after less than 18 months in the 15-a-side code.
Charnley scored just four tries for the Sharks before heading back to the 13-a-side game, in which he scored 165 for the Warriors.
But he is adamant that he has not wasted a year-and-a-half of his career.
He also revealed the lack of knowledge as England reached the World Cup final in December, which was more surprising as fellow convert Denny Solomona would have played in the tournament for Samoa had he not moved!
Charnley, 27, said: “I had an opportunity to go to rugby union, which was one I couldn’t resist.
“If I’d signed a four-year deal at Wigan, I might have regretted it in the future. I gave it a good crack and it just didn’t work out for me.
“I’d say my love for rugby league has grown while I’ve been away. What is weird is that we had a World Cup in league last year and none of the Sale boys knew England were playing.
“It was really surprising they didn’t know about it. They are a Premiership team and none of the lads knew there was a World Cup on in league.”
Meanwhile, Salford are believed to be eyeing a move for Warrington star Matty Russell, 24.
