The blanket appeal has spread throughout the country in the last week having started as a simple idea by a local businessman.

Arctic weather that blasted across Europe in the last week saw dozens tragically die.

Roman Luca La Mesa went to Ikea and bought 50 blankets to hand out as the big freeze swept Europe.

Posting on social media, he wrote: “It’s freezing, will you help us?”

His appeal quickly spread.

As the days passed, hundreds more blankets were bought by Italians – before Ikea decided to offer up thousands for free.

On Friday night the blankets were handed out in some of Italy’s biggest cities: Turin, Rome, Milan, Geona and Brescia.

Dybala and Iturbe also spent time at homeless shelter Sant’Egidio, where they helped give out hot food and drink.
