Kenyan punter wins £1.6million from £1.60 bet after correctly predicting outcome of 17 football matches


A LUCKY Kenyan has amazingly netted £1.6million from a £1.60 bet after predicting the outcome of 17 football matches.

Samuel Abisai, 28, won the life-changing sum after having a flutter on two separate picks, according to betting firm SportPesa.

Mr Abisai – who is from the western region of Kakamega plans on spending his winnings back to his local community and the football team.

It is reported to be the biggest payout ever on a bet in Kenya where the average wage is about £116.

Mr Abisai told journalists in Nairobi: “I think I am not going to bet again.”

The company boss Ronald Karauri led a convoy to Mr Abisai’s home town of Thika – 27 miles outside of the capital Nairobi – to pick up the lucky winner.

And they even had to get round a huge pothole outside his humble home to reach his house.

Father-of-one Mr Abisai works for a Chinese company and speaks fluent Mandarin.

But he revealed he has not decided yet whether or not to pack in his job and live off his new-found wealth.

Around three-quarters of 17-35 year olds in the sub-Saharan country admit to have placed a bet with apps on phones making it easily accessible.

The Government slapped a 50 per cent tax on the industry but it will not affect Mr Abisai’s windfall as the tax law comes in next year.
