Leicester 1 Manchester United 2: Zlatan Ibrahimovic scores late winner as Reds lift Community Shield

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC marked his competitive debut in perfect fashion with a winning goal as Manchester United lifted the Community Shield.

Just moments after Ahmed Musa missed a glorious chance for Leicester, United went up the other end and an Antonio Valencia cross was met by the towering Swede to head past a hapless Kasper Schmeichel.

Midfielder Jesse Lingard, who scored the winning goal in last season's FA Cup final, opened the scoring with a terrific individual effort beating the challenges of four Leicester players before slotting it past Schmeichel.

But less than 10 minutes into the second half and Leicester were level through Jamie Vardy.

Marouane Fellaini played a poor back-pass which was well short for keeper David de Gea and the striker was alert to collect the ball, round the keeper and put it into an empty net from a tight angle.

But as penalties loomed at Wembley, Ibrahimovic rose above Wes Morgan and his header found the bottom corner as Jose Mourinho won his first trophy as Manchester United boss.

• JOSE MOURINHO’S promise to play Wayne Rooney as a striker is in transition. The Manchester United ace played further up the pitch than last season - but naturally still found himself trying to dictate play from the halfway line.
• ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC proved he can have a stinker of a game, but with such quality, can find goals in an instant. He was well off the mark but popped up with an 83rd-minute header to win the match.
• THE Community Shield may not mean much, but what it represents is massive. Roaring supporters were buzzing at the thought of next week, when the real games begin.
• YOUTH is forcing itself to be part of Mourinho’s plans. The Special One notoriously places his faith in tried and tested, but Jesse Lingard’s spectacular solo goal could not be ignored.
• LEICESTER have picked up where they left off. The Prem champions played the same counter-attacking football and stifled United, while causing damage on the break.
• JAMIE VARDY is ravenous for goals. As if last season’s 24-goal haul wasn’t enough, the speedy striker looks ready to better his own record this time around.
• FOXES fans are well and truly behind their team this season. Manchester City, United and Chelsea are all to be feared but loyal Leicester supporters are confident they can put a spanner in the works - again!
• JUAN MATA was shown a Manchester United future for 27 minutes - before it was brutally yanked away from him. The Spaniard was brought on as a 63rd-minute sub, but extraordinarily Mourinho hoisted him off in stoppage time. The midfielder stood on the sidelines in a fury afterwards.
• FELLAINI is treading on thin ice. The Belgian brute carelessly passed back to De Gea for Leicester’s goal DESPITE Mourinho’s hard work to create a hard-to-break-down team.
• TINKER MAN or Shrinkerman, whatever you call Claudio Ranieri, it doesn’t matter. The Italian knows how to get the best of his team in every situation.
