But WBA were unable to find a replacement and he stayed put.

Now City have joined Manchester City and Arsenal in the race to land him in the transfer window.

The Daily Mail says the Foxes, City and the Gunners all had bids of £25million knocked back just a few months ago.

In terms of logistics, Evans, 30, would prefer a move to City so he could keep his young family in the north-west.

“We haven’t had a phone call from another football club and that’s where it stands.

“In terms of our plans to use that money if it was to come in the door, that time is ticking away and that concerns me a little bit more.”

West Bromwich are said to have lined up 6ft 4in Egypt international Ali Gabr as a replacement, initially on loan from Zamalek.

They would then spend any cash they receive for Evans on a new striker.
On that front Liverpool duo Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, are on Pardew’s radar.

So, too, are Watford’s Troy Deeney and Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
