Leicester City want Patrick Roberts as part of £60m Riyad Mahrez deal to Manchester City

LEICESTER will attempt to sign Manchester City midfielder Patrick Roberts as part of a package for the sale of Riyad Mahrez.

The English midfielder has spent two seasons on loan at Celtic, but according to reports the Foxes are keen to take him when Mahrez’s drawn-out transfer saga finally reaches an end.

The 21-year-old has yet to make a breakthrough south of the border despite caps for England at Under-20 level.

Former Fulham man Roberts is rated by Pep Guardiola, according to the Telegraph, but the Spaniard is keen to push through a £60million move for the former PFA Player of the Year this summer.

Mahrez went on strike after a proposed move to City collapsed at the end of the January transfer window.

City reportedly rate Roberts at around £15m, given his potential.

He played 12 Scottish Premiership games for Celtic last season and even netted for the Hoops in the Champions League, adding to his two goals in Europe the season before.

So he has some key experience under his belt and does not even turn 22 until February.

Guardiola is also hoping to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho if new boss Carlo Ancelotti signs off the sale of the Italy international, after having a £44m bid rejected.

Maurizio Sarri left the Serie A club, who nearly won the Scudetto last season, for Ancelotti to take over, but they are hoping to keep hold of a number of their star players.
