Leicester ‘open talks with Jonny Evans despite West Brom ace still wanting to join Man City’
JONNY EVANS has “given up on his dream switch to Manchester City” with a move to Leicester on the cards for the West Brom defender.
According to reports, the Northern Ireland international, 30, is set to leave the relegated Baggies after they endured a nightmare season.
The Old Trafford graduate, who played for United for seven seasons, has a £3million release clause, but had his heart set on a move back to Manchester – with United’s rivals City.
Leicester boss Claude Puel is keen to reinforce his defence, according to the Mirror – and Evans would bring a wealth of experience to play alongside Harry Maguire.
The likes of Premier League-winning defenders Robert Huth, 33, and Wes Morgan, 34, are not getting any younger and Puel is being pragmatic about the future of the club’s defence.
Leicester had a rotten final to the season, appearing to take their foot off the gas after they knew they were safe in the Premier League, with five defeats and one win in their last seven games.

That meant they fell away from the chase for Europe, with Burnley clinching seventh place and the chance to play in the Europa League next term.
Evans and his wife Helen are based in the North West and he had been keen to return to the area, to be near his young daughter, which could alert clubs in the vicinity.
Evans was carrying an injury at the end of the season but he still wants to play in the Premier League.
