Leroy Sane to Manchester City: Schalke winger to complete £42m move to Pep Guardiola’s City imminently on four-year contract

MANCHESTER CITY are on the brink of completing the £42million transfer of Leroy Sane from Schalke on a four-year contract worth £100,000 a week.

The £42m move will be the second-highest amount paid for a German player, with Mesut Ozil’s £42.5m move to Arsenal in 2013 the only higher fee.

Yesterday, Schalke’s sporting director revealed that the 20-year-old German winger Sane has handed in a transfer request to the Bundesliga club.

Christian Heidel said: “Leroy has made it clear, he would like to leave this summer.

“We will consent to a transfer if Schalke’s conditions are met.”

City’s new boss Pep Guardiola has made no secret of his desire to sign Sane in the past, saying that he was a “great talent for the future”.

Wonderkid Sane also received high praise from Germany manager Joachim Low, who had labelled him as “a player with a special gift and sophistication”.

Sporting pedigree runs in the Sane family, his father Souleyman, 55,  was a striker who also played for Schalke and his mother Regina Weber, 53, won a bronze medal for Germany in the rhythmic gymnastics at the 1984 Olympics.

Rapid wideman Sane has made four appearances for the German national team, and featured in 42 games in all competitions for Schalke last season, scoring nine goals.
