A photo of a ballot paper registering support for Lionel Messi has gone viral on social media.
Perhaps one voter believed the world’s greatest footballer was the best man for the role of the world’s most powerful politician.
Or perhaps that person just could not accept a contest in which billionaire businessman Trump eventually beat establishment figure Clinton in an even bigger shock for the bookies than Brexit.
For Messi, though, it meant a rare defeat in the polls - after his five wins in the past eight Fifa player of the year awards.
Real Madrid raider Cristiano Ronaldo pipped him to the crown in 2008, 2013 and 2014.
But, unless a photo emerges to prove otherwise, it seems former Manchester United favourite Ronaldo was cruelly snubbed in the fight for the White House.
