Lionel Messi reveals ideal move after Barcelona… but dashes Pep Guardiola’s hopes of bringing him to Man City

BARCELONA legend Lionel Messi has revealed which club he wants to play for next – but he’s ruled out a reunion with Pep Guardiola.

The Argentine has spent his whole senior career at the Nou Camp and scored 552 goals.

However, the 30-year-old has been linked on numerous occasions with a big-money move away to join his old Barca boss at Manchester City.

Messi is under contract with the La Liga champions until 2021 with his deal included a whopping £612million buy-out clause.

Once that finishes the South American has thrown the door open to joining another club, but unfortunately it is not the news Guardiola and the Etihad faithful were hoping for.

Speaking to El Trece in his homeland, Messi said: “I always said I wanted to play in Argentine football one day.

“I don’t know if it will happen but I have it in my mind. It would be at Newell’s, nowhere else.

“I would like to do that for at least six months, but you never know what will happen.

“I’m increasingly sure that in Europe, Barcelona will be my only club.”

Messi joined Newell’s as a six-year-old but left them to join Barca’s La Masia academy aged 12.

He is currently with the Argentina national team preparing for the World Cup as he aims to win the showpiece for the first time.

After moving to Spain at such a young age, Messi could have applied for clearance to represent La Roja at international level and possibly been a part of their triumphant 2010 side that conquered the planet’s best in South Africa.

But the superstar insists he has no regrets about choosing to remain loyal to his native country.

And he insists that firing his country to glory this summer in Russia would provide him with unrivalled joy despite the countless accolades he has enjoyed over the course of his iconic career.

He added: “The other day I was talking to a friend and he told me ‘if you had chosen Spain, you’d be a World Cup winner already’, but it wouldn’t have been the same.

“Obviously in no moment did I think about doing that. To win it with Argentina would be something unique.”
