The defending Serie A champions axed manager Cuca last week after slipping 14 points behind leaders Corinthians.

But Palmeiras, under interim coach Alberto Valentim, won 3-1 away at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico on Sunday thanks to goals from Willian, Moises and Dudu.

And celebrating Verdao supporters were pictured proudly holding their porcine pal aloft in the stands.

Palmerias are also known affectionately by fans as ‘O Porco’, meaning the pig.

And the Sao Paulo-based club even parade a terrifying boar-like mascot during home games.

Palmeiras has struggled domestically since selling star striker Gabriel Jesus to Manchester City last year.

And the Brazil international has showed why as he’s taken the Premier League by storm, netting six goals in seven games for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

But they were given hope of retaining the title when Corinthians were shocked 2-0 at Bahia, reducing the deficit to 11.
