And Roberto Firmino continued his impressive form with a second.

New Milan boss, Vincenzo Montella, will have much to ponder after seeing his side blown away by a team which finished eighth in the Premier League last season.

FACTS, STATS, GOALS & LOLS

  • THESE two have only met twice in competitive games — in the Champions League finals of 2005 and 07. Hard to see either back there any time soon, especially Milan.
  • DIVOCK ORIGI is showing what all the fuss is about at last. He is a far stronger, far greater all-round striker this season. As his clinical finish for the opener proved.
  • WITH a Gabriel and a Jesus in the ranks, Milan may expect help from above. The Jesus is in fact ex-Kop flop Suso, who scored for Liverpool in their 2014 friendly clash.
  • TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD’S debut showed why they expect such big things. They’ll make a few quid from any shirts sold with his name on the back too.
  • EXPECT to see a far more fluid Liverpool this season, if the manner in which players were switching positions almost by the minute here is any indication.
  • RAGNAR KLAVAN may have arrived as an unknown, but expect that to change soon. The no-nonsense Estonian centre back will leave plenty with bruises as a momento.
  • LIVERPOOL may not have the Premier League’s brightest stars, but you can’t say the same about their dazzling yellow third kit. Sunglasses all round.
  • THERE may be bigger names around than Sadio Mane, but not many faster feet. The Senegalese is so rapid, at times he just becomes a blur.
  • JAMES MILNER got his first taste of a potential new life as a left back. He already looks a better option than the gaffe-prone Alberto Moreno.
  • AT nearly 200 feet high, the back row of the top tier at the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted. You could end up with altitude sickness.

WHAT THEY SAID

Jurgen Klopp: “Everybody knows about the potential of Divock Origi. I understand that after a game like this you name single players.

“But I think, especially tonight, it is not the night to talk about single players. If you want to talk, then it’s [about] the style of play, the dominance we had, the passing.

“The situation we had in the first half – we played brilliant, we did the right thing, we passed all time until we were through.

“We created chances, we didn’t score, that’s right. Of course, you need a finish but that will come 100 per cent.”

Jurgen Klopp hailed his Liverpool team’s performance as dominant

“I said before the game that I’m really happy about the opponents because Italian teams are always organised and they make problems and you will always struggle with different things in a game because it is not easy to play them.

“We did really well and scored the goals and wonderful goals [and] had one or two more chances. In the first half we had four or five big moments.

“Playing dominant football like this and then reacting on balls we lose, like we did in the counter-pressing situations – that’s the only moment where there should be a little moment of hectic, all the rest should be calm and dominant.

“I’m pleased with the performance of the whole team.”
