LYON have issued a statement to “categorically deny” Liverpool have agreed a £57.1million move for Nabil Fekir.
It follows the club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas stating the deal would not go through until after the World Cup.
French newspaper L’Equipe reported that the France international would have a medical on Friday to complete a move worth €65m and another €7m in add-on clauses.
However, this information appears to be wide of the mark.
Lyon tweeted: “The information on the transfer of Nabil Faulkner is false. Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media about the transfer of Nabil Faulkner to Liverpool.”
On Thursday, Aulas said: “The [transfer] is at a standstill, there is no way forward.
“The [transfer] will certainly not close during the World Cup and I do not think there is any change before the World Cup.
“Not set a base price because we have not discussed this yet.”
Lyon also released a video on social media that said: “Nabil Fekir [transfer] will not close before or during the World Cup.”
Didier Deschamps’ France squad remain in France in their pre-World Cup training camp.
They face the United States in their final warm-up game on Saturday and head out to Russia after that.
Fekir, 24, scored 23 goals and added nine assists for Lyon last season.
