Centre-back Klavan – who’s fee is expected to rise with add ons – has 112 caps for his country and made more than 100 appearances for the German club since arriving from Dutch club AZ in 2012.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I’m really honoured to be part of this amazing club, this amazing team.

“It’s hard to put it into words, because it’s been a dream of mine for 22 years to come to the Premier League and be a part of this amazing club, Liverpool.

“The Premier League is the most attractive league in the world and you always have amazing players here. This is the home of football.”

Klopp is repairing the defensive hole he was left with after Kolo Toure was released and Martin Skrtel was sold to Fenerbahce.

Frenchman Mamadou Sakho is also expected to miss the start of the season with an Achilles tendon injury.

Klavan joins Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Sadio Mane in the new Anfield ranks.
