Liverpool turn to Barcelona’s second-choice keeper Jasper Cillessen as Loris Karius replacement

JASPER CILLESSEN has reportedly emerged as a Liverpool target.

The beaten Champions League finalists are in the market for a new keeper after Loris Karius’ pair of howlers cost them a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Liverpool have now identified Barcelona‘s second-choice stopper Cillessen as a player that could become their No1.

The Reds seemed to have settled on Roma’s Alisson and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak as their two main goalkeeping targets.

But Oblak’s release clause stands at £87million, with Atletico unlikely to part with the Slovenian for anything less.

And Cafu claims Brazil international Alisson is set to sign for Real Madrid.

Former Ajax keeper Cillessen, 29, has voiced his desire to play more often at Barca, where he is behind Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Last season Cillessen played in all of Barca’s games on their way to winning the Copa del Rey, but started just one game in the Champions League and one in La Liga.

The report from Spain says that 39-cap Dutch international has a £52m (60m euro) release clause.

And, with three years left on his contract, Cillessen would not be allowed to leave on the cheap.

But it appears unlikely that Reds would pay as much as £52m for a player that was restricted to just 11 club games last season.
