If the Dutchman does miss the 4.00pm kick-off, Dejan Lovren is likely to replace him in the heart of the Reds defence.

Van Dijk’s potential injury will be a massive blow to the hosts as they look to end City’s Premier League undefeated run.

He enjoyed a dream debut for the Reds last week after scoring the winner in the Merseyside Derby against Everton to see the Reds into the fourth round.

But it looks like he will not be risked with the fixtures coming thick and fast in the second half of the season.

Liverpool‘s Egyptian striker has been one of the Premier League‘s best performers this campaign, netting 17 times.

But Pep did not look impressed when asked if he is similar to the five-time Balon d’Or winner.
