LIVERPOOL and Manchester United fans face jail if they display vile banners this weekend.
Recent matches between the bitter rivals have seen supporters drape offensive messages from bridges on busy routines between Manchester and Liverpool.
Police will be checking bridges ahead of Saturday’s game after supporters were spotted draping messages above motorways ahead of their Europa League quarter-final encounter in March 2016.
One, hung from a bridge in Salford, showed the date of the Hillsborough tragedy and ‘murderers’ written on it – with two men later ordered to 135 hours of unpaid work.
Another recent banner merely read: ‘Man b*******’.
SunSport understands that the banners alone could see fans handed sentences of up to six months under the Communications Act 2003.

After clashes in their European game, both clubs were later fined around £44,000 each for throwing objects and other crowd disturbances, with fans seen fighting in the stands.
The game at Anfield last October this season, which ended in a 0-0 draw, passed without any major incident despite the dangers of its 8pm kick-off, albeit on a Monday.
Fans have previously been warned that anybody singing abhorrent songs about the United's Munich disaster or the Hillsborough tradgedy would be thrown out.
