LOVE ISLAND’S Theo Campbell could be jeopardising his athletics career after British Athletics revealed they had no idea he was entering the hit ITV show.
The 25-year-old 400m runner was last in track action on Sunday – finishing seventh in an eight-man race at the British Athletics championship.
With the World Championships are being held in London next month, his decision to take part in the programme instead of training could leave him broken-hearted.
A British Athletics spokesman told the Daily Mirror: “British Athletics was unaware of Theo Campbell’s participation in this reality TV show.
“With the IAAF World Championships in London just a month away, we would expect all those in contention for selection to be 100 per cent focused on their training and preparations to compete against the world’s best athletes.”
Campbell, from Bath, described his job as an athlete during his pre-show interview and went on to claim that he partied with the likes Olympic legend Usain Bolt.
He said: “I’ve been doing athletics for six years, I’m in Team GB, the 4 x 400m Relay team.
“The main target in my eyes is the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.”

Campbell is not a fully-fledged member of Team GB and remains on the fringes of the British squad.
However, his hopes of fulfilling his 2020 ambition could be seriously dented after choosing to go in search of romance on the reality show over training.
He caused an immediate stir upon his arrival in the villa, going on a series of blind dates, which led to tensions with the other male Islanders – particularly Kem Cetinay.
The hairdresser’s girl Amber Davies was one of his picks and it caused the a meltdown for her fella.
When Amber received a text summoning her to go on the date, a raging Kem repeatedly said: “Who’s Theo? Who the f*** is Theo?”
He then stormed into the bedroom, punched a curtain and kicked a pillow as best pal Chris Hughes followed him in hysterics.
Kem then asked his friend to throw a pillow at his face in a bid to relieve some of his anger.
Love Island sends a host of singletons looking for a good time over to a luxurious villa for a summer of passion.
Known for its hot and heavy sex scenes, the contestants are encouraged to pair up and convince the public they have found love.
In a twist at the end of the series, the winning couple are asked to either split the cash, or take the entire £50,000 pot home for themselves.
