Lyon defender Marcelo sent off in thrilling 3-3 Ligue 1 draw for knocking yellow card out of referee’s hand

LYON defender Marcelo was sent off for a ridiculous second yellow in the six-goal thriller against Angers.

With his side 3-1 up on 50 minutes in the Ligue 1 clash, Marcelo was booked for a foul on the edge of his own box.

The South American was guilty of a robust challenge on Angers’ Baptiste Santamaria, who was left rolling around on the grass.

Referee Mikael Lesage issued the Brazilian with a yellow card with a stiff right arm.

And, as the 30-year-old centre-back protested his booking, his flailing arm clashed with the official’s hand as he was trying to whip his card back into his pocket.

The yellow card was knocked onto the floor and the ref instantly went to his back pocket and grabbed the red card to finish his game.

The dismissal sparked Lyon’s collapse as Karl Ekambi equalised on 58 minutes and Ismael Traore completed the fightback on 67 minutes.
