ALL good things come to an end.
Manchester City’s unbeaten run this season has been a wonderful adventure and produced the best football I have seen City play in my life time.
There have been times this season where I truly believed we were unbeatable, having cast-aside some very worthy opponents with such panache it seemed as if the inevitable would never come.
But, sadly, at Anfield it did.
Liverpool clung on to beat City 4-3 in a thrilling game which provided everything it promised in the pre-match build-up.
In the days following Sunday’s clash, there has been a lot of celebration of Liverpool’s performance, and while you have to give credit to a side who score four goals, I think you have to point the finger to the team who conceded four and ask, ‘What went so wrong?’
For me, the game was not won by stellar finishing as much as it was lost by a rare Ederson mistake and a lapse in communication from two centre-halves who have been sublime up until this point.
It’s a frustrating way to lose a game having seen our side produce so many strong performances against
lesser sides, but ultimately you have to accept that this is football and on the day we were simply not good enough.

As lovely as it would have been to go an entire league season unbeaten, as so many predicted City would, I don’t think this defeat actually changes anything.
Whether people like it or not, City are still 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Even at 4-1, City showed enough resilience to get back into the game and if Sergio Aguero’s last minute header had swung the right side of the post, we’d be talking about this game in a very different way.
This resilience is enough evidence to me that City will have what it takes to see this season out.
I won’t pretend I’m not disappointed by the result or that I’d love to have continued the unbeaten run, of course I would.
But the end of the run doesn’t take anything from Pep Guardiola’s remarkable 18 consecutive Premier League wins or the unbelievable football we have played so far this season.
Heading into this Saturday’s home game against Newcastle I think it’s fair to say I’m looking forward to a game with the pressure off.
I hope the side react well to defeat and can crack onto starting another run of 30 unbeaten Premier League games.
