Puma’s deal with Arsenal is nearing an end, and they are looking to sign up with another top team.

And City are closing in on terms with the sports giant to take over from Nike, who pay around £18m-a-a season.

But Puma want to maintain their huge profile, with the Gunners set to axe them in favour of Adidas.

An Etihad source said: “There have been rumours for a while and nothing is set to be announced yet.

“There is more certainty about the place that everything is on the right track when it comes to Puma.

“They are pushing the boat out and beating off some of their rivals. It is getting closer and closer.

“City still have a strong relationship with Nike so the fans must be patient. There’s work to be done.”

City’s negotiations with Puma have also been strengthened by having a number of commercially attractive young stars.
