Kluivert, whose dad Patrick was a legendary striker back in the 90s and early 00s, accused Ajax of trying to force him into signing a new deal in order to bolster his valuation.

The winger is out of contract next year and Gazzetta dello Sport claims his agent Mino Raiola met Roma sporting director Monchi yesterday in Monte Carlo yesterday.

The Italian publication say personal terms were agreed for the teen and all that remains is for the Serie A side to agree a transfer fee with their Eredivisie counterparts.

Ajax do not want to sell and are believed to be demanding £35million for Kluivert – with Roma only willing to pay around half of that figure.

That news would come as a blow to United boss Jose Mourinho, who has been a long-term admirer of the youngster.

However, Kluivert’s latest comments seem to suggest that a move to the Eternal City is still some way off as he hinted he is open to another season at the Amsterdam Arena.

After being quizzed on his future, he told Fox Sports: “There are exciting moments coming for me. Let’s see what they’re going to be.

“In the end, it’s my decision. I’m not a hundred per cent convinced yet.

“I have to think things through. To stay at Ajax is definitely an option. It certainly is.”

Kluivert continued his progress with another stunning campaign last time out.

He scored ten goals in 30 top-flight games for Ajax.
