Kompany returned to the pitch, and manager Pep Guardiola was forced into making a change, bringing on Pablo Zabaleta and shuffling Bacary Sagna to centre-back.
He received a round of applause from all sides of Selhurst Park as he hobbled off the pitch looking dejected - but he would be cheered by Yaya Toure's goal for City just moments later.
Kompany has had a terrible injury record, and only returned late last month from a month out with a groin strain.
And in the week, there were fresh concerns following his late withdrawal from Belgium’s 1-1 draw with Holland on Wednesday night.
In total since he joined the club in 2008, he has had 17 separate injury layoffs, in particular having trouble with his groin, calf and hamstring.
