Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has Pep Guardiola to thank for his stunning form, according to the stats

RAHEEM STERLING sparked outrage on Merseyside when he swapped Liverpool for Manchester City in a £49million deal in August 2015.

While he will be an easy target for the Liverpool boo-boys this Sunday in the huge Premier League clash, nothing can stop Man City’s No7 this year.

The England winger, 23, has terrorised defences in the first half of the season with his scintillating performances.

In fact, Sterling has already scored more goals in this campaign than any other, with all the statistics pointing towards the influence of Pep Guardiola, according to Grosvenorsport.com.

The City man’s highest goals tally before this season was 11 – under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool in 2014-15 and Manuel Pellegrini in 2015-16.

However, the former QPR youth player has now notched 18 times in all competitions this season and created six goals for his teammates along the way – his best return to date.

In total, under Guardiola, Sterling and scored 28 times in just 18 months, while adding a further 28 assists – to total an astounding 56 goal involvements.

More importantly for City, they have won 94 per cent of the matches Sterling has scored in this season.

He has contributed six winning goals, with four of those coming in the last ten minutes of matches.

City have also won an impressive 93 per cent of matches Sterling has been involved in this season.

Disappointingly for Sterling, he has yet to feature in a City team to defeat Liverpool in the league and over 90 minutes.

The Citizens have beaten Liverpool just twice in league and cup fixtures since his arrival, and Sterling only appeared in the League Cup victory at Anfield – decided on penalties.

That remains Sterling’s only trophy since swapped the Reds for City in 2015 “to win silverware” – but now the Manchester club are on track to win FOUR.

As well as running away with the Premier League, City are arguably the strongest team left in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup this term.
