It was hard to argue with the Juventus and Italy legend getting the gong, with 42 per cent of the vote.

But some United fans were left baffled that their No1 failed to feature on the top-15 list.

Buffon beat last year’s winner Manuel Neuer into second place, with the German getting 32 per cent of the vote.

Keylor Navas came third (10%) after helping Real Madrid to the Champions League and Liga title.

Outside the top three came the likes of Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris, Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak and Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

Then came Roma and Brazil gloveman Allison with 0.01 per cent – the last man to register above zero per cent.

A string of names then appeared on the list at zero per cent – presumably with no votes – including Iran keeper Alireza Beiranvand.

But there was no sign of De Gea – arguably the best keeper in the planet and widely regarded as the best in the Prem.

United fans (and others) had their say on social media…
