Manchester United fans furious as Jose Mourinho linked with move for West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic

MANCHESTER UNITED fans went into meltdown when manager Jose Mourinho was spotted watching West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic play against Russia last night.

The Austrian is apparently wanted following an impressive first season at the London Stadium but despite his fiery character, he is not the world class name many United fans want.

Arnautovic signed for West Ham last summer and made 31 Premier League appearances t following his club-record £24million arrival from Stoke.

He was the Hammers’ top scorer with 11 goals and made six assists, only bettered by Aaron Cresswell with seven and his tally of 71 shots was 27 more than any of his team-mates as the club survived a relegation scare with a 13th-placed finish.

Considering Manchester United have been linked with the likes of Gareth Bale this week, the reaction to their interest in the former Stoke forward has not exactly been welcoming.

But some fans, including those of West Ham and some of United’s rivals, did see the funny side in the ridiculousness of the rumour.

Mourinho was spotted at Austria’s game against World Cup hosts Russia last night as Arnautovic played 83 minutes in his side’s 1-0 win.

Austria finished fourth in Group D in qualifying, behind group winners Serbia, Republic of Ireland and Bale’s Wales.

As well as the heavy links with Bale, United are thought to be closing in on a £17.5million deal to bring Porto right-back Diogo Dalot to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile rivals Manchester City’s pursuit of Napoli midfielder Jorginho is almost complete and West Ham have bid for Barcelona defender Marlon.
