Manchester United legend Paul Scholes moves a step closer to Wigan coaching role as new boss at the DW Stadium and old pal Warren Joyce sacks coach

WIGAN boss Warren Joyce has axed coach Joe Parkinson, paving the way for Paul Scholes to join his back-room team.

Joyce has let long serving Parkinson leave the club as he starts a managerial shake up and is now preparing the way for a new team.

United and England legend Scholes has been lost to the game since hanging up his boots and only does TV work.

Scholes, 41, has not got his coaching badges so a full-time role at Old Trafford with their kids may be difficult to get past the football authorities.

Joyce and Scholes could team up more successfully, and in a typically low-key way, at the DW.

Joyce is trying to put his own stamp on the club.

He has even made some players call off mini-breaks in order to work through the international break.
