Manchester United news: Jose Mourinho to serve one-game touchline ban tonight against West Ham after admitting water bottle charge

JOSE MOURINHO has been given a one-game touchline ban – which he will serve tonight against West Ham in the EFL Cup.

The Special One was charged by the FA after he was sent to the stands during Sunday’s 1-1 league draw with the Hammers for kicking a water bottle in disgust.

Portuguese Mourinho reacted furiously when Paul Pogba was cautioned for diving, having sent off by ref Jonathan Moss – before being handed a misconduct charge.

He was expected to be in the stands rather than the touchline for Sunday’s trip to Everton, having been given until Thursday to respond.

But it appears he has accepted the charge put to him by the FA, and will also pay a £16,000 fine.

It is the second time this season the Portuguese has been sent off, having been sent to the stands at half-time in the 0-0 draw with Burnley in the Premier League in October for abusing ref Mark Clattenberg.

He admitted using abusive and/or insulting language towards Clattenburg and was fined £8,000 for the incident and banned from the touchline for one game.

Mourinho was also charged and fined a further £50,000 for comments he made about referee Anthony Taylor ahead of a game against Liverpool.

United are sixth in the Premier League with 20 points from 13 matches, 11 adrift of leaders Chelsea.

Mourinho's team entertain West Ham again in the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.

It was the THIRD time referee Jon Moss has sent him off – last year at West Ham when he was Chelsea boss, and in 2014 at Aston Villa when he was fourth official.

Managers were told at the start of this season that they would be punished if they kicked bottles in the dugout.
